Hidden Treasures!

It is amazing what happens given motivation! I have been carrying on with Steam Punk, but saw some great fabric that may suit this quilt - Whirlygig by Sarah Feilke, from her book from little things ..... I had previously arranged the stems, so it was fun to collect some fabrics for the centre flower. And boy, did I find some interesting fabrics and some WIP's too!
My long lost Dresden Plate for which I have done a tutorial - see my side bar - and a similar one in Thirties fabrics was also in the latest issue of Down Under Quilts - the tutorial is featured also! I have a little worry at times that I have lost my touch - I really think my time factor has changed that's all, so I feel good, lol! I was going to make this into a cushion, just thinking though, could be a nice medallion to a simple Kaffe Quilt.
And so to my long lost x and + blocks - look, just one more needed to make nine, then maybe a nice little small quilt. I would love the time and motivation to carry on to at least make a lap quilt, who knows?
Let's hope you've all had a lovely weekend - and Perth Girls, remember QuiltWest starts next Wednesday, best wishes to all entrants!

Moving On With Steam Punk!

I had queries on my applique method for the great Steam Punk blocks, so today I have been doing a little preparation so show you.
This is a little ahead, I will make it a very detailed tutorial, perhaps Monday, tomorrow being Mothers' Day here in Australia.
A little more preparation and a sneak peak at a delightful pattern I have ordered.

I checked out the Internet and ordered these great freezer paper sheets from Calico Cottage Crafts - excellent service, so obliging and the parcel came so quickly. These are just great and go through my HP Photosmart printer so well.
Mum and I just adore the fragrance of this beautiful hyacinth - I picked it up for her and it is sitting on her side table bringing a beautiful fragrance to the family room. Neither of us had seen a real live living one before.
Son David is our 'gardener' and does a beautiful job - the kalamata olive tree is bearing profusely, and no, I haven't preserved them this year!
Not everyone's favourite plants, but I love succulents - the original of this breed came from one of our war heroes, a POW, so nice to have memories - he was very dearly loved by my daughter, Angela and her children. I have asked David to pop it beside our front door for all to see!

I see I have lost my signature again, happy weekend to all and best wishes to all Mothers out there - I hope you are fiercely spoiled tomorrow! Hugs - Lurline!

Citrus Sweet Love!

No, no, no! - no credit to me, but I am allowed to show you this gorgeous Block of the Month developed by Treetop Textiles,  Cabbage Quilts, our dear, very talented Cathy being one of the designers. Congratulations Cathy, this so smacks of your incredible talent. For further information, pop over to Cathy's blog, you will love it!

Now to my little achievement - my first block of Steam Punk. As I mentioned earlier, I have appliqued this block, perfect results, so this will be my chosen method. I enjoy the relaxation stitching away with those tiny little stitches and I'm looking forward to picking all the pretty colour combinations!

Happy Weekend!

Nittaya!

Today I have a short, personal story to tell you. As a lot of you are aware, I am awaiting the birth of my little grandson in Thailand in June. This is my beautiful granddaughter who was born just over 17 years ago - yes, in Thailand too!

I  am so happy to tell you she has grown into a beautiful well-educated, well-adjusted girl and our whole family is so proud and love her so much. It has been a sad, rocky road with sprinkles of joy and happiness and we are so blessed. To my son, Aaron, thank you for bringing Nittaya into our lives and we so much look forward to the new little one, who will be so adored!

Happy Saturday!

How easy is it when one doesn't venture forth! This is the result with my trusty Olympus and Picasa.

I would love to be able to use pics from my ipad and iphone edited with Snapseed, but I'm not quite there yet. This pic isn't wonderful - it does show off my experiment though. This little sweetie is for our new baby boy due June 24. He will be born and live in Thailand, so I have used beautiful Yuwa and Emma Louise and Quilt Lite for batting - it is so soft and cuddly.

I hope you all manage to get a bit of stitching in over the weekend, with a bit of luck I will.

Anzac Day 2013

Today as we remember our soldiers from the past, it is with deep gratitude we send our love to those who have our welfare in their hands now - God bless!
Oopsy! Here I go again - I really have forgotten how to use Blogger and this laptop. Now all I have to do is teach myself Blogsy on my ipad.
Don't you just love Steam Punk by our own Jenny Kingwell - so far I have used freezer paper to applique the templates onto the background - for me easy-peasy, though please follow Jenny's directions as I am sure it will be the simplest way for most. I'm looking forward to all the scrappy combinations I can make from my stash.
I love using Snapseed for editing, now the black frame, I really don't know how I even put it there and I don't like it, never mind!
Can't you smell those roses? Trust me, they are divine. Grown by dear friend Teena - a lovely group of girls spent Tuesday at her place, just the best being with dear friends.
From this point I will say ta - ta as everything is pretty giddy around my signature. I have some fun stitching on the go and littlies Heidi and Byron are with Ed, Mum and I while the young ones are at two-up at the RSL, a great Aussie tradition on Anzac Day. Happy Stitching!

God Bless Boston!

After such a long time I promised myself I would blog today - and then awoke to devastating news as the rest of the world has heard. We have visited this beautiful city and have many happy memories and words cannot describe my feeling about this heinous act - with a sad heart I will carry on.
My worktable with a very favourite quilt above - yes, I am still a quilter after a forced absence. I have been very unwell for many months and discovered in a critical situation, I had a necrotic gall
bladder with attachments - however, the old Lurline is back with lots of news to share in days to come. I caught up with some of my very favourite people over the weekend, lots of laughs and good times, a few, very few bubbles and retail therapy of course!
My darling grandchildren, 17 year old twins Ayesha and Bailey in front of our place ready to take off in the Hummer for their Year 12 Formal - oh, yes, I am so very proud!

I had great difficulty uploading/downloading this Post - well, I did suffer severely with post anaesthetic psychosis, lol - yes I did, but in actual fact I mainly use my Apple ipad these days and have forgotten or Blogger has changed. Never mind, I'll get back to showing lots of pretties and I will tell you, browsing blogs has been a blessing to me in the past few months, so I thank you all, dear friends!

Oh So Cute!

I mentioned in my previous post how I have decided to do Lucy Boston's Crosses. I did organize and start - just a little too wincy I think. Cute as ... but!
So now I have a stack of one inch templates on hand and I am on a trial run to see what I can do with self-made one and a half inch templates.
I have some lovely fabrics about and of course have added a few more in Liberty Life, I think it is. They are just beautiful and I am just so enthusiastic, so let's hope I have some pretties to show you next post. Well, maybe one pretty, I'll be happy if I can achieve that.
I was so thrilled to have so many lovely comments on my last post and I still hope to get back to you all personally. Life is so busy, it takes a lot caring for others, but I really do want to hold onto my quilting, blog and all that goes with it.
Happy Sunday arv to all girls in Oz and it will come to all of you soon!

Playing With Crosses!
